AMY B. CROCKETT, PHD
I am a Clinical Psychologist and have been in private practice since i finished my doctorate in 1995. I work with adult INDIVIDUALS and provide psychotherapy, PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENTS, AND IQ, MEMORY, AND PERSONALITY TESTING. I specialize in treating a broad range of psychological issues, including depression, anxiety, relationship problems, anger and stress management, job and life-style changes, parenting issues, fertility and pregnancy issues, and grief.
My theoretical orientation is psychodynamic and relational, with an emphasis on how relationships, personal and professional, are important in an individual's life. I believe a client's feelings, self-image, and relationships with others contribute to both psychological strengths and problems. I use a client's current and past life experiences to guide our discussions as we work toward positive change. I also use cognitive-behavioral techniques (thinking and acting), mindfulness, ACT-based techniques, among other methods, to help clients recognize and deal with problems such as negative self-talk, anxiety, stress, and symptoms of depression, and to move through those problems toward improved mental health. I believe that my role as a therapist is to help clarify problematic patterns of interaction, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors that keep a person from living fully and to help that person change those patterns to develop a healthy self-image and happy, fulfilling relationships. I believe that therapy is an individual's work on his or her own life. My focus as a therapist is to empower individuals to make their own decisions about what they want to change and how they want to live their lives and to help them achieve those goals.
my style is conversational, collegial, and collaborative. I strive to develop a positive and warm connection with my clients. together, we will work to develop insight into your issues, identify positive and negative patterns of interacting with others and the world, gain understanding of what contributes to your psychological pain, improve your perspective on these issues, and work toward greater self-actualization, fulfillment, peacefulness, and satisfaction in your life.
WHEN I AM NOT WORKING, I ENJOY SPENDING TIME WITH MY FAMILY and pets. I ENJOY JOGGING, SKIING, CAMPING, HIKING, BIKING, AND TENNIS. I ALWAYS HAVE A GOOD BOOK ON HAND TO READ AND I PRACTICE YOGA REGULARLY TO KEEP ME CENTERED.
I look forward to working with you.
