JULIAN FRAZIER, PHD
I am a LICENSED COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGIST WITH A HISTORY OF WORK IN COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH AND INTEGRATED CARE, WHICH HELPS ME BRING A UNIQUE SKILLSET TO PRIVATE PRACTICE. I WORK PRIMARILY WITH ADULTS PROVIDING PSYCHOTHERAPY FOR A BROAD RANGE OF ISSUES INCLUDING DEPRESSION, ANXIETY, STRESS MANAGEMENT, "EXISTENTIAL CRISIS"/MAJOR LIFE TRANSITIONS, SPORT AND WORK PERFORMANCE, CAREER/VOCATIONAL COUNSELING, AND MULTICULTURAL ISSUES.
MY THEORETICAL ORIENTATION IS AN INTEGRATIVE BLEND OF EXISTENTIAL PSYCHOTHERAPY AND COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY. I BELIEVE THAT THERAPY IS A PROCESS OF ACTIVE BECOMING, WHERE THE THERAPIST AND CLIENT WORK COLLABORATIVELY TO ADDRESS THE CLIENT'S PRESENTING ISSUES. THIS MEANS SOMETIMES DIVING INTO THE BIG QUESTIONS LIKE "WHAT IS THE MEANING OF LIFE?" WHILE ALSO BEING CONCRETE IN TAKING MEASURABLE ACTION TOWARDS SPECIFIC GOALS. TOGETHER WE WILL REFINE WHO YOU WOULD LIKE TO BECOME AND THROUGH A PROCESS OF COLLABORATIVE EMPIRICISM (DELIBERATE TRIAL-AND-ERROR), TAKE STEPS TOWARDS ACTUALIZING THAT VISION. FOR SOME PEOPLE THAT MEANS STRIVING TO BECOME THE BEST VERSION OF THEMSELVES; FOR OTHERS IT MEANS WORKING THROUGH A CHALLENGING SITUATION OR SUCCESSFULLY NAVIGATING THE SYMPTOMS AND TRIALS OF MENTAL ILLNESS.
TO SUPPLEMENT A PERSON'S STRIVING, I USE INTEGRATED TECHNQUES FROM ACROSS THE MIND-BODY SPECTRUM, SPECIFICALLY LOOKING AT HOW ASPECTS OF LIFESTYLE, NUTRITION, EXERCISE, SLEEP, AND ONE'S ENVIRONMENT PLAY A ROLE IN SUPPORTIVE MENTAL HEALTH. I STRIVE TO BE PROFESSIONAL AND TASK-ORIENTED WHILE ALSO BEING WARM, AUTHENTIC, AND COLLABORATIVE. THERAPY CAN BE A DIFFICULT AND DYNAMIC SPACE FOR LEARNING, GROWTH, EXPRESSION, AND CREATIVITY. WHILE I AM NO STRANGER TO THE HEAVIER ASPECTS OF LIFE, I HOPE THAT WE CAN ALSO FIND TIME FOR JOY AND FUN IN OUR WORK TOGETHER!
ALONG WITH MY CLINICAL WORK, I AM ALSO A PROFESSOR IN COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY AND CONTINUE TO WORK IN PSYCHOTHERAPY RESEARCH. LIKE MANY COLORADANS, I FIND MYSELF HIKING, SKIING, BIKING, AND PADDLE-BOARDING, BUT UNLIKE MANY I'VE ALSO FOUND MYSELF DABBLING IN DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS, CIRCUS ARTS, AND PARKOUR!
I LOOK FORWARD TO MEETING AND WORKING WITH YOU.
