Hannah Benedetti, PsyD
I am a clinical psychologist with experience in a variety of mental health care settings where I have provided therapy and assessment. I have worked in outpatient clinics, private practices, community mental health centers, and hospitals. These diverse experiences have allowed me to become familiar with many types of mental health struggles and life challenges. They have also given me the privilege of witnessing incredible growth and healing in people from many different walks of life. I specialize in working with adults and older adults in the areas of trauma (ranging from severe or chronic trauma to highly stressful experiences), issues with attachment, anger, anxiety, depression, and caregiving.
My theoretical orientation involves Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), mindfulness practices, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), among others. This work includes exploring your inner world together in order to find the true root of your pain and struggles. I believe all parts of who we are exist for a reason, the “good” and the “bad” ones. Difficult emotions, mental health symptoms and unwanted behaviors give us such important information! There is so much wisdom in the more tender or challenging aspects of who we are as they developed (at some point in time) to help us out. I value the process of getting to know all of the pieces that come together to create you and learning to work with, rather than against, these elements. My work very much emphasizes creating empathy and compassion for ourselves and gaining access to the innate wellness and ability to thrive that resides inside us all. As we consider your many layers, I also believe it’s important to understand the role of attachment in your mental health. There is so much healing that can take place when we create a more coherent narrative around our childhood experiences (internal and external), and how those factors have informed our emotions, behaviors, and mental health as adults. I also think it’s my role to closely consider the trauma/s that you may have experienced at any point in time that have become stuck in your body and mind. My work involves processing these experiences in order to modify the effect they have on you. I also like to bring in practical strategies to help get through overwhelm and tough mental health symptoms, including coping skills and techniques that address the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that aren’t working for you.
My style is warm, accepting, and compassionate. I also think there can be a place for humor in therapy! Your healing and growth will happen in a collaborative manner with our combined intellectual and emotional work. I will tailor our work, and my techniques, to your specific struggles and needs. I will meet you where you are to bring wellness and balance to your state of being.
When I am not working, I spend time with my friends and family, including my two young children. We love to be outside in the local parks and to spend time in the mountains. When I am able to step away from parenting I enjoy yoga, cooking, reading, and finding a good latte.
